Experts Say Americans Should Heed Travel Warnings During Spring Break

CDC officials say another Covid-19 surge could be looming as many Americans now plan to travel for spring break, according to CNBC.  There are also concerns that some states are lifting mask mandates and loosening their restrictions too soon.

“With the coming warmer weather, I know it’s tempting to want to relax and to let our guard down, particularly after a hard winter that sadly saw the highest level of cases and deaths during the pandemic so far,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said.

Airports have conducted screenings for more than 1 million people a day since last Thursday — the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic, according to Yahoo News. This is in spite of the fact the CDC is warning Americans to avoid non-essential travel.

Officials say Texas and Florida top the destinations people are traveling to right now. Both states have discontinued their restrictions in recent weeks. The Biden administration is also concerned people are doing too much traveling now, especially college students.

Europe has seen a recent uptick in Covid-19 cases, which is causing some areas to return to heavier restrictions. Italy and Germany, for example, are among those countries.

Officials are concerned the same thing could happen here if the proper precautions are not taken. Given there are 50,000 daily new Covid-19 cases nationwide, medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci said it is “absolutely no time to declare victory.”
