Biden Wants Covid-19 Vaccinations Open to All Adults By May 1

President Joe Biden is now projecting he will order all states nationwide to be ready for all adults to be eligible to be able to receive a Covid-19 vaccine by May 1, according to CNN. He made the announcement during a prime time speech Thursday, his first since taking office.

His plan is that given the timeframe, Americans will actually be able to celebrate the Fourth of July together in person, according to NPR. However, he is still encouraging limiting the gatherings to small, intimate ones.

“After this long hard year, that will make this Independence Day something truly special, where we not only mark our independence as a nation but begin to mark our independence from this virus,” Biden said. “Finding light in the darkness is a very American thing to do. In fact, it may be the most American thing we do.”

He said even after May, people will still need to take precautions, including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Covid-19 vaccines will be available at pharmacies nationwide and at mass vaccination centers run by the federal government.

In addition, Biden noted that former President Trump, instead of quickly working to try to get Covid-19 under control, chose to be in “denial” about it instead. Biden also said his administration was not left with enough Covid-19 vaccines.

He said the nation has experienced “collective suffering” but expressed hope for the future. He said the government should “protect its people” and be leaders they have faith in and can trust.
